I jumped from #1 to #3. I didn't like #2 so I didn't post it. :(

From A Hardware Store Flyer
Here is another lady created from a weekly hardware store flyer. Elements include: coffee filters, bottle of Miniwax hardwood floor cleaner, drill, cabinet knobs, Pyrex measuring cup, plastic food storage container lid and piece of a china dish. It is a fun challenge to create something out of junk mail. :)

One Hundred Faces - #1
I joined Sharon Tomlinson's Facebook Group "One Hundred Faces." The idea is to paint 100 faces on a tiny scale and glue them to a large canvas or board to make one large piece of art. Actually, I think the main idea is to have some fun and share ideas and inspiration. I don't really paint with brushes too much like most of the other members but they kindly let me post anyway. :)
Here is my #1.

Another Idea for a Painting
Working on these collages is actually giving me ideas for larger paintings. The collages are small and fit into protector sheets which I am storing in a three ring binder. My visual journal. Being left handed, there is no way I can work with a regular book journal as I can't write anything on the right side without cringing. Seriously hate that. I don't think it's a problem for right handed folks writing on the left side of a journal.
Anyway, here is the latest inspiration. Makes me think of a stone statue with a fancy hat. I was going to add more to this piece, however, I liked as is, so I didn't mess any more with it.

Model For A Large Painting
I was just kicking around some ideas for a painting I am planning to do on a much larger scale than I usually work. This is basically what I intend to do. Now it will require a lot of thought to bring out some depth while still keeping it simple. It will be mixed media - canvas board, watercolour paper, acrylic paint and oil paint. I hope it works out because I love this concept a lot. If I screw up, I will try again.

A Mosaic Gift
My husband and I received a very pleasant surprise yesterday.
SURPRISE - noun - something that surprises someone; a completely unexpected occurrence, appearance, or statement.
My friend and mosaic artist, Jackie, made this very personal mosaic piece especially for us. Our three dogs are rescues. They came from a wonderful place in Whitby, Ontario, Canada called Lotsadogs Rescue.
This is appropriately entitled "Dempsey Rescue" because we are the Dempseys (or as Jackie often affectionately refers to us as the Bickersons, but that's another story) and we live with rescue dogs. Jackie used her own dog, Dash, a beagle/dachshund mix as a model. And that is fitting as well because we look after Dash when Jackie has to go away and can't take Dash with her. Dash is really like our fourth dog and he also came from Lotsadogs Rescue.
Jackie said she had been working on this piece on and off for over a year and always had to hide it whenever I went to her house. I had no clue. I greatly admire her mosaics and the patience it takes to make the kind of detailed pieces that she makes. Sometimes the bits of china and glass are very tiny and somehow she makes it all come together. That would drive me crazy.
I often thought it would be nice to have one of her mosaics and now I have one.

Girl on a Chicken
What does this image have to do with a chicken, you ask? Well, I sketched the girl over a picture of a chicken in a grocery store weekly food specials flyer. I just love the shaded background. You would never guess the background of the face and neck is actually a dead chicken. There are even a couple of creases on the paper which add some interest and note the little white line on the left side of her hair. That's a hair off one of my dogs. Don't know how that got under the scanner. :)

Paper Collage From Supermarket Food Flyer
I love junk mail. I made this collage from this week's local supermarket flyer. The face is painted on a head of iceberg lettuce. The other greens are another type of lettuce (the name escapes me at the moment), rosemary and green onions. The "reds" are various meats (don't ask me because I am a vegetarian).

Baby Blue Eyes
A few things worth mentioning today.
1) I woke up to the sweet sound of poetry this morning. My husband let our three dogs, plus a fourth one that I am minding for a few days, out ultra early this morning while I was still in bed. When they all came back in, he did a head count to make sure no one was left out in the cold. What I heard was:
"One, two, three, four,
All the dogs accounted for."
2) Today is my father's birthday. He would have been 99 years old.
3) I was invited to join a local arts society. I have to submit a few samples of my work before the end of March and if the judges like what they see, I can join. I have decided that I am going to go for it.

Olympic Flame
I couldn't resist using this Olympic Flame graphic from a magazine for the head piece. It just seemed a perfect fit. :)

Eat Your Greens
Paper Collage - The "greens" came from a photo in a glossy magazine. Some green veggies on a barbecue. I am beginning to look at magazines and junk mail paper in a whole different way. Lots of artistic possibilities. :)

Valentine's Day Card For 2014
A little early yet, I know, but this is the image I created for my
Valentine's Day card this year. Except for the background, I cut out
all the other papers from this week's Home Hardware flyer, LOL. (Home
Hardware is a Canadian hardware store chain). This was a fun challenge for me.
