Another Icicle

I'm a bit under the weather today and didn't get as much work done on my swap dolls as I would have liked. This is the second Icicle Doll that I started.

I'm liking the idea of doing an acrylic wash on the muslin before I draw the details of the face. I can do all sorts of fantasy characters with this technique. I've made the Icicle faces blue because blue is a cool (as in cold) colour. And "cool" in the other sense too because it also happens to be my favourite colour.

I am just playing around with sewing beads and sequins. What I've learned so far has been strictly through trial and error. I'm not using beading needles and thread and I don't know the proper way to sew them. Since I live in a remote, rural community, it's not an easy matter for me to sign up for a course. I guess I will have to ask around and see if I can find someone locally to teach me or get a book on the subject from the library. I hate wading through instructions though. I would rather have someone show me how to do it and preferably a left handed person.

I hope you're feeling better. You know, I think that you're really on to something with those colour washed faces; very stiking! I packed up a lot of my Christmas stuff yesterday (hopefully finish the tree today), but the "Red Ornament" has a special place in my room/studio so that I can enjoy her all year long. Thanks, again.

Creativehands: Wow, I'm so pleased you like Miz Red. You know, we're going to have to get together sometime this year and trade crafting stories. I'm not much good with wool, but I do like wine and Whoppers. :)
