One World One Heart (2011)

It's that time of year again for a tour of the "blogosphere". If you're not familiar with the event, click here for the details. You may even want to join in the fun yourself, but you must have a blog to participate.














Below is my giveaway which is typical of the art that I produce. I like to mostly work with fabrics. I have a special affection for cats but I make dolls and other things as well. I give every one of my creations a human face.

Here then is my giveaway, a cat with a menacing face. She measures 7 inches in height and 6 inches across at the widest point. She is made from printed cottons. I "painted" the face with inks. She is backed by felt and the edge is embroidered with a blanket stitch. There is a little hook at the back so she can be hung up on a wall. I think she would be especially appropriate for display around Halloween.

Above is my offering for this years’ One World One Heart event. Please click on the One World One Heart image at the top right for information if you are not already familiar with this event.

The above ornament is hand painted and stitched by me. The face is surrounded by red seed beads. It measures 3” x 3”, has a layer of light batting and is backed by felt. It would look nice as a Christmas tree ornament because of the colours but could be displayed in a small space at any time of the year. It’s not entirely completed yet. I still plan on finishing it with a hanger and surround of nicely textured yarn.

In addition to the ornament, I am also including a selection of greeting cards which contain photographic images of my feline fibre art. I've included some pictures of the cards but not all.

My offering is my Joy(ful) Doll which I have previously presented to my readers. Since my entry is so close to the deadline, I don't have the time to make something brand new. Joy(ful) is one of my favourite dolls and I think worthy to give away.






















Let me tell you a little bit about her. She is 6 inches tall and her arms span is 4 1/2 inches. Her body is made of 100% cotton reinforced with a heavy fusible interfacing. Each dot is colourfully embroidered. Her face has been painted and drawn on muslin with acrylic paint, ultra fine Sharpies and coloured pencils and sealed with glossy Modge Podge. Her face is surrounded with sparkly aqua glass beads.

She is backed with turquoise felt. Back and front have been embroidered together with a blanket stitch. She is two dimensional (not stuffed) and ready to be displayed somewhere in a small space. She has been created completely out of my imagination and is an OOAK (one of a kind) art doll. I also see her as a mini wall hanging.
