Pi(e)

Made from my African papers and junk mail paper.

African Fire

More paper collage.  I am totally loving the African design inspired papers my friend gave me.  Here's the latest.

African Blue

I have been using a lot of "blue" papers lately.  It's just because I have been challenging myself to use up the blue scraps.

Working with fabric is time consuming and certainly worth the effort.  Paper is instant gratification.  :)

Blue Face

Just having some more fun with papers and pen.  I should make some of these for Halloween.  A little creepy, but not too much.  :)

More Fun With Paper

I found some very colourful papers hidden away in a drawer.  A friend gave these to me a number of years ago.  That's the trouble with keeping a large stash of supplies - you lose track of what you have.  Here's the first paper project.  :)

Cat Reclining - Paper

The project that I posted on January 13, 2014,  just wasn't working for me.

As I added and deleted and changed things around, it just kept getting worse and worse, so I gave up and moved on.

Below is a quick project that I whipped up in about 20 minutes.  This time I used papers instead of the usual cotton fabrics that I work with.  :)

Trim the Dogs' Nails

Always a fun trip to the groomer's to get the dogs' nails trimmed. Along with our three (Alba, Della, and Nigel) we took their little buddy Dash (a daschsund/beagle mix) who lives on our street for the car ride 10 minutes from where we live. When we got back home, all was quiet. No more sound of "click click click" on the tile floor - until the next time.

Blues and Pinks

I previously posted a blurry over exposed picture of this creature from my "reject" pile.  I think I still like it but it needs a lot of work before I can even consider loving it.  :)

ACEO - Pink Floral

I finished this ACEO last night.  Now I just need to mount it on a canvas board and frame it.  I collect frames from thrift shops but they are not always in the best of shape.  That means they have to sometimes be cleaned, lightly sanded and painted.  More work.  This one calls for a shabby chic look so a distressed white frame would look good, I think.  I am thankful I discovered chalk paint which can paint over almost any surface with minimal preparation.  And no paint fumes either.

Failure

This drawing was not completed to my satisfaction, however, I don't seem to be able to toss out my rejects.  Then I thought I would mess it up a bit more by adding little lines all over and now I think maybe it's salvageable for a future project.  Even the photo was taken in bad light and not sharp enough and over exposed.  And yet, somehow, I think I kind of like it.

Two Backgrounds

I finished this just before Christmas but was not really happy with the colour of the background.  I prefer the one below.  It's brighter but then, I do like the loop around the head on the grey background.

Cat in Blues and Beige

I made this yesterday, New Years' Day, while enjoying a quiet day at home with my husband.   I wanted something simple and quick, so I pieced together some fabric scraps and ran a blanket stitch around the edge.  In the past, I have sealed the faces of my critters, but not the bodies.  I wanted to see what the whole thing was going to look like sealed.  I used Modge Podge gloss finish.  Not bad.  I will try a satin finish on another project.

It's so fulfilling and fun to be creating again.  :)
