Tartan: Ribbons and Butterfly

I acquired three different 16mm authentic tartan ribbons to work with. Now I have to think of something very clever to do with it.

I finished the edges of the Tartan Butterfly. It's almost done except I have to locate some pretty red organza ribbon for the hanger. I will also use this image on a greeting card.

Tartan Butterfly - Work In Progress

Here is another butterfly I started. I thought it was pretty good until my friend Julia pointed out that it would look better if the tartan pattern on each wing was positioned in the opposite direction from each other. I agree with her. I'll finish this one up and try it again using her suggestion.

Hubby and I are going to a Highland Games today so I will be keeping my eyes open for new ideas.

Orange Blossom - Work In Progress

For the next month, I will be posting my work either in progress or completed. I started the Orange Blossom today, but this is as far as I got as I don't have the right shade of green embroidery thread to continue. A trip this weekend to Fabricland (or maybe Michael's) will remedy that situation.

I've used this pattern before and I'll be making a couple more in a tartan fabric.

Details - Face is painted on tea-dyed muslin. Lovely orange fabric received as an extra item in a swap.

Floral Butterfly

This butterfly is almost finished. I just need to add some sort of light weight ribbon (organza?) for the hanger.

Starting next week, I will be working on some tartan ornaments to sell at our local Highland Games. I know a kiltmaker who assures me that the Highland dancer crowd is always on the lookout for something different. She says as long as it has some tartan on it, there's a good chance it will sell.

Making these little cotton things is a hobby I took up a couple of years ago. I'm still experimenting and learning and I'm nowhere near as skilled as I'd like to be. But I am improving and have made a few items which I cannot part with. I mention this because selling my work is not important to me yet.

Anyway, I expect to be posting a lot over the next month. Maybe I'll even find time to catch on old flick on YouTube every now and then.

We're Almost There

Our refuge from the mosquitoes, our three season room, is almost finished. It just needs an electrical hook up, some varnishing and exterior siding. We enter this space from the sliding patio door in our bedroom. The room is surrounded by glass with two screen doors on either end for ventillation. The floor is tiled.

I can sit there and enjoy a glass of wine with hubby, or a meal, or just do a little stitching and sketching. A quiet, uncluttered space to shield you from wind and rain.

Our dream of 14 years is a better reality that I could have ever have imagined.

I Love Old Movies, I Love YouTube

I love old movies. I haven't seen a "current" movie in two years and I don't turn on my TV very much.

Thank you to all the folks who post old films on YouTube. That's the only way I get to see these films again. Even though the picture quality isn't always the best and I have to watch the movies in 10 minutes segments, it's still worth it.

Below are some movie posters from films I've watched recently.
